1. Lamy Ballpoint Pen Refills

Lamy makes three different ballpoint pen refills, the M16, M21, & M22. The M16 is their standard ballpoint pen refill, the M21 is a D1 type refill, and the M22 is a short compact refill.

In the following sections, we explain what tip sizes & colors are available for each ballpoint pen refill and list the Lamy pens they fit.

We also show you what the alternative refills from other brands will fit for Lamy ballpoint pens.

1.1. Lamy M16 Ballpoint Pen Refills

The Lamy M16 ballpoint pen refill is their standard refill for ballpoint pens, made from metal, and has a stainless steel ball tip.

The M16 refill contains a lot of ink compared to other brands, as it will write between 4,500 and 8,000 meters depending on how thick your writing is.

A typical ballpoint pen writes 900 meters. For more information, check out How Far Will a Ballpoint Pen Write. The Lamy M16 ballpoint pen refill is available in three tip sizes which are fine, medium, and broad, and in the following colors:

Lamy M16 Ballpoint pen refills are designed explicitly for Lamy ballpoint pens and will not fit pens made by any other manufacturers.

1.2. Lamy M21 Ballpoint Pen Refills

The Lamy M21 ballpoint pen refill is a standard D1 size refill used to refill Lamy multifunction pens and a couple of slim ballpoint pens such as the Lamy CP1 and Spirit ballpoint pens.

D1 refills are a standard size complying with ISO 12757-1:2017. And can also refill any other brand of pen that uses a D1 refill.

The Lamy M21 is a metal refill with a stainless steel ball tip and is available in four colors black, blue, green, and red.

The Lamy M22 ballpoint pen refill is a small compact refill specially designed for a small range of Lamy ballpoint pens.

It will not fit any other pen brand, nor will it work in a Lamy ballpoint that takes a Lamy M16 Refill.

The refill is available in three tip sizes which are fine, medium, and broad, and in the following colors:

The Lamy M55 highlighter refill is a metal D1 refill used to highlight text with orange ink, suitable for multifunction pens and any pen that takes a D1 refill.

1.5. Compatible/Alternative Lamy M16 Ballpoint Pen Refills

The Lamy M16 ballpoint pen refill has a unique design, with the main barrel tapers into a long slender tube with the ballpoint tip at the end of this tube.

A plastic spring stop is fitted; compatible Lamy ballpoint pen refills are few and far between due to this unique design.

However, the Monteverde Soft Roll L13 ballpoint pen refill is available for Lamy ballpoint pens. It is a very smooth writing refill with a medium tip and measures 100mm in length and 5 mm in diameter.

The Monteverde L13 Soft Roll refill is available in 9 colors compared to Lamy’s four colors.

2. Lamy Rollerball Pen Refills

Lamy makes two different rollerball refills, the M63 and the M66. These contain a liquid ink that is very smooth flowing and glides effortlessly across the paper.

The Lamy M63 rollerball pen refill fits all Lamy rollerballs with a cap, e.g., Lamy Safari rollerball pens. Conversely, the Lamy M66 refill fits their rollerball pens that do not have a cap, e.g., Lamy Dialog 2 rollerball pens.

You cannot interchange Lamy M63 and M66 refills, so you can only replace M63 refills with another M63 refill, and the same goes for the M66 refill; the M63 will not fit the pen.

In the following sections, we explain what tip sizes & colors are available for each rollerball pen refill and list the Lamy pens they fit.

We also show you what alternative refills from other brands will fit Lamy rollerball pens.

2.1. Lamy M63 Rollerball Pen Refills

The Lamy M63 rollerball pen refill is a metal barrelled refill tapering into a long plastic sleeve with the rollerball tip fitted to the end of this sleeve.

The Lamy M63 rollerball pen refill is available in two tip sizes which are medium and broad, and in the following colors:

• Medium (M) Black, Blue (erasable), Red, Green
• Broad (B) Black, Blue

The Lamy M63 refill fits all Lamy rollerball pens equipped with a removable cap.

Lamy M63 Rollerball pen refills are designed explicitly for Lamy rollerball pens and will not fit any pens from other manufacturers.

2.2. Lamy M66 Rollerball Pen Refills

The Lamy M66 refill is a metal refill that tapers into a plastic tube with the rollerball tip located at the end.

The Lamy M66 rollerball pen refill is available in two tip sizes which are medium and broad, and in the following colors:

• Medium (M) Black, Blue (erasable), Red, Green
• Broad (B) Black, Blue

The Lamy M66 refill is suitable for use in all Lamy rollerball pens that are do not have a removable cap.

2.3. Lamy T11 Ink Roller Refills

The Lamy T11 ink roller is a metal refill with a 0.7mm tip and contains washable blue ink. It is a very smooth writing refill for Lamy Balloon Rollerball Pens.

The Lamy T11 cannot be used to refill any other pen.

3. Lamy Pen Refill Dimensions

Lamy currently make five different refills for their pens, and they have the following dimensions:

• The Lamy M16 ballpoint pen refill is 106mm long and 6mm in diameter.
• The Lamy M21 multifunction ballpoint pen refill is a standard D1 refill of 66 mm in length and 2.3 mm in diameter.
• The Lamy M22 ballpoint pen refill is a short compact refill of 60mm in length and 5.8mm in diameter.
• The Lamy M63 rollerball pen refill is 117mm long and 6.2mm in diameter.
• The Lamy M66 rollerball pen refill is 113mm long and 7mm in diameter.

4. Lamy Fountain Pen Refills

Lamy fountain pens are refilled via ink cartridges or from a bottle of ink using an ink converter.

The following sections will detail Lamy ink cartridges, Lamy compatible ink cartridges, & the different types of Lamy bottled inks and converters.

We will also show you which pens the different Lamy ink converters fit and how to refill a Lamy fountain pen.

4.1. Lamy T10 Ink Cartridges

Lamy T10 ink cartridges are a specific size and will only fit in a Lamy Fountain pen; they will not work in any fountain pen made by another manufacturer.

They will refill all Lamy fountain pens except the Lamy 2000, which has a built-in piston fill converter.

Lamy T10 ink cartridges are available in the following seven standard colors:

• Black
• Blue
• Blue-Black
• Green
• Red
• Turquoise
• Violet

Each year Lamy also brings out a limited edition color for their T10 ink cartridges.

Lamy ink cartridges are in packs of five, and each one contains approximately 1.15ml of ink.

In Comparison, there is 0.75ml of ink in short international standard size ink cartridges and 1.3ml of ink in long international size ink cartridges.

4.2. Compatible Lamy Ink Cartridges

As we have already mentioned, Lamy ink cartridges are a specific size and can therefore only fit Lamy fountain pens.

Therefore there are not many compatible Lamy ink cartridges manufactured by other brands.

The good news is that Monteverde makes an ink cartridge that fits Lamy fountain pens.

If you are looking for an alternative to Lamy ink cartridges, they are worth checking out as they are available in 11 colors, including two fluorescent colors, which are:

4.3. Lamy T 51 Ink Bottle 30ml

Lamy T 51 ink is in a glass bottle that contains 30 mL of ink. The specially designed bottom of the bottle has a small ink reservoir sunk into its base that allows you to use more of the ink.

It is an excellent feature when using a traditional ink bottle. It is hard to draw the last drops of remaining ink from a flat bottle bottom into your fountain pen.

Lamy T51 ink is available in the following three colors:

• Black
• Blue
• Red

4.4. Lamy T 52 Ink Bottle 50ml

Lamy T52 ink is in a glass bottle that contains 50 ml of ink. The bottom of the bottle has a  small ink reservoir sunk into its base that allows you to use more of the ink.

It is an excellent feature when using a traditional ink bottle. It is hard to draw the last drops of remaining ink from a flat bottle bottom into your fountain pen.

Lamy T52 ink is available in the following six colors:

4.5. Lamy T53 Crystal Ink Bottle 30ml

Lamy T53 premium quality crystal ink is in a 30ml bottle. The ink colors are inspired by gemstones, although you would never know from the official description on the Lamy website.

4.6. Lamy Ink Convertors

An ink converter is needed to refill Lamy fountain pens with ink from a bottle. It is a refillable ink tank filled with bottled ink made by any brand.

Lamy makes two ink converters, the Lamy Z27 and the Lamy Z28.

Each converter only fits certain fountain pens, which we will cover in the following sections.

4.7. Lamy Z27 Ink Converter

The Lamy Z27 Ink converter was formerly known as a Lamy Z26 ink converter until Lamy rebranded it several years ago.

It is a twist-action converter turning its screw draws the ink from the bottle into the reservoir.

It is possible to use this ink convertor in nearly all Lamy fountain pens but to be safe, I would stick to the following list of pens that Lamy states.

4.8. Lamy Z28 Ink Converter

The Lamy Z28 Ink converter was formerly known as a Lamy Z24 ink converter until Lamy rebranded it several years ago.

It is a twist-action converter turning its screw draws the ink from the bottle into the reservoir. Two molded locators on the side prevent the Lamy Z28 from fitting in other fountain pens.

4.9. Lamy Fountain Pen Nibs

Lamy fountain pen nibs have a simple design that allows most of them to be easily changed by pulling them off the ink feed and sliding the new nib back over the feed.

Our top tip is to sick a piece of Sellotape across the nib and use this to slide the nib off its ink feed.

Note that Lamy can only change some nibs on the more expensive fountain pens in the factory. If in doubt, check with a Lamy dealer first.

These are the Lamy nibs available Z50, Z52, Z53, Z55, Z56, Z57, and Lamy 2000 nibs.

Lamy Z50 is the entry-level nibs used in cheaper fountain pens such as the safari. In the next section, we will detail the different ranges of nibs and sizes.

4.10. Lamy Z50 Nibs

The Lamy Z50 nib is Lamy’s entry-level nib and has stood the test of time as a decent workhorse. It may not have the writing finesse of a gold-plated nib.

However, this is probably the first nib they encounter for thousands of young people worldwide as Lamy safari fountain pens are fitted with them, which are probably the first fountain pen they use as a student.

Lamy Z50 nibs are made from stainless steel and are available with either polished chrome or black finish and easily replaced if you want to try something different from the standard medium nib.

4.11. Lamy Z52 Nibs

Lamy Z52 nibs have a black PVD coating and fit Lamy LX fountain pens and the Lamy LX Studio fountain pens.

They will also fit any fountain pen that takes a Z50 nib if you want to upgrade to this cooler and slightly more expensive nib.

4.12. Lamy Z53 Nibs

The Lamy Z53 nib is fitted to Lamy Aion fountain pens and is far more responsive to pressure than the standard Lamy Z50 nibs allowing more creativity when writing.

The steel Z53 nib has a slightly different profile to the standard Z50, making it more responsive.

If you want to swap out a Lamy Z50 nib for a Z53 on your favorite Safari fountain pen or any other pen with a Z50, then it is a straightforward process, and the Z53 fits perfectly.

4.13. Lamy Z55 Nibs

The Lamy Z55 14K bi-color gold nibs have platinum plating, a premium nib that feels more responsive, and it is easier to write with than a steel Lamy Z50 nib.

They are fitted to fountain pens such as the Lamy Accent CP1 and Studio fountain pens but also can replace the nib of any fountain pen with a Lamy Z50 fitted to it.

• EF – Extra Fine
• F – Fine
• M – Medium
• *OM – Oblique Medium
• B – Broad
• *OB – Oblique Broad

*Oblique is a slant on the nib that can help straighten writing by someone who holds their pen at a slight angle and is also used to produce creative writing.

4.14. Lamy Z56 Nibs

Lamy Z56 nibs are a 14K gold nib with a partial platinum coating and fitted to Lamy Imporium pens.

Lamy Z56 nibs can be used to replace Z50 nibs already fitted to a fountain pen.; however, you could buy four Lamy Safaris for the price of this nib.

4.15. Lamy Z57 Nibs

Lamy Imporium pens have a Lamy Z57 nib.; the only difference between a Lamy Z57 and a Lamy Z56 nib is that the Z57 is a 14K gold nib with a partial black PVD coating.

The nibs can also upgrade any fountain pen that takes a Lamy Z50 nib.

4.16. Lamy 2000 Nibs

The Lamy 2000 fountain pen is factory fitted with a unique hooded nib that Lamy can only replace.

5. Lamy Pencil Refills

Lamy makes a range of replacement lead and eraser refills for their mechanical pencils. Including 0,5mm, 0.7mm, 1.4mm and 3.15mm leads.

They also make the Z60 mechanical pencil insert for their multifunction pencils. The next section details the Lamy lead & eraser refills, including what models of pencil they fit.

5.1. Lamy Z10 Eraser Refill

The Lamy Z10 eraser refill has a clearing pin attached to the underside of the eraser casing, supplied as a pack of three erasers.

It measures 16mm in length and 3.4mm in diameter.

5.5. Lamy Z19 Eraser Refill

The Lamy Z19 eraser refill has a clearing pin attached to the underside of the eraser casing, supplied in packs of three erasers.

It measures 9.0mm in length and 4.8mm in diameter.

The Lamy Z19 Eraser Refill fits the Following Lamy Pencils

• Lamy Scribble 0.7mm Mechanical Pencil

5.6. Lamy M40 Lead Refill 0.7mm

Lamy M40 Lead refills are 0.7mm in diameter, HB lead grade, and supplied in a pack of 12 leads.

They are used to refill Lamy 0.7mm pencils and any other manufacturer’s 0.7mm mechanical pencil.

5.7. Lamy M41 Lead Refill 0.5mm

Lamy M41 Lead refills are 0.7mm in diameter, HB lead grade, and supplied in a pack of 12 leads.

They are used to refill Lamy 0.5mm pencils and any other manufacturer’s 0.5mm mechanical pencil.

5.8. Lamy M43 Lead Refill 3.15mm

Lamy M43 Lead refills are 3.15mm in diameter, 4B lead grade, and supplied in a pack of 3 leads.

They are used to refill Lamy Scribble pencils and any other manufacturer’s 3.15mm mechanical pencil.

5.9. Lamy M44 Lead Refill 1.4mm

Lamy M44 Lead refills are 1.4mm in diameter, B lead grade, and supplied in a pack of 6 leads.

They are used to refill Lamy ABC learners’ pencils and any other manufacturer’s 1.4mm mechanical pencil.

5.10. Lamy Z60 0.5mm Lead Refill Mechanism

The Lamy Z60 is a 0.5mm lead refill mechanism that can fit all Lamy twin pens and tri pens.

Lamy recommends using Lamy M41 0.5mm refills; however, 0.5mm replacement leads from other brands can be used.

5.11. Lamy Z61 0.7mm Lead Refill Mechanism

The Lamy Z61 is a 0.7mm lead refill mechanism that fits all Lamy twin pens and tri pens.

Lamy recommends using Lamy M40 0.7mm refills; however, 0.7mm replacement leads from other brands can be used.

6. Where Can I Buy Cheap Lamy Refills?

You can buy refills directly from the Lamy website but obviously, you will be paying the full retail price.

If you are looking to save money and buy cheap Lamy refills then Amazon is probably as good as anywhere.

There are plenty of other online stores that will sell them but they struggle to compete with Amazon on prices and postal costs.
