As I’m not one of those fortunate people blessed with the ability to draw, when I picked up the Staedtler Triplus Fineliner I wondered how I was going to review it. It appears that many people do use these pens for writing & note taking as well as art work so here goes.
The Staedtler Triplus Fineliner contains dry safe ink, this means that if you get called away from the desk or just forget to replace the cap for any length of time it won’t dry out. In fact Staedtler claim that the ISO 554 standard is testament to the fact that it can be left for days without giving up the ghost. As this ink is not permanent you won’t have to worry about the children drawing on their clothes as it washes out of most fabrics.
This fineliner is part of a range of writing instruments with a characteristic triangular barrel. A design that has achieved the Good Design Award. All fineliners have a silver grey barrel with colour coded caps & end stoppers & fine metal tips. They are ergonomically designed for comfort & are said to prevent fatigue. Whilst this sunshine yellow pen is attractive to my eye, its not a colour that I feel is practical to write with & would be put to better use colouring. The thing is this range offers a huge variety of 20 vibrant colours which include different shades of green & blue along with pastel hues. If you want to use this fineliner, that writes a line approximately 0.3mm, for marking homework, filling in forms or make use of the fine tip for checking small boxes you are likely to find a colour to suit.
At 16cm capped it is longer than the average pen or rollerball, this wasn’t something that bothered me. It was comfortable in my hand & the lack of a grip section meant my fingers rested over an inch from the tip.

Oh I really like these pens! I too have a set in that nifty plastic box that doubles as a stand… unfortunately, I am not blessed with artistic talent so I basically use mine for coloring circles because that is the one thing I CAN draw.
