I’ve always been a believer in the old adage don’t judge a book by its cover. The fact that the appearance of this fineliner is not my idea of attractive, didn’t stop me giving it a chance to redeem itself by putting in a good performance.

A metal clad fibre tipped pen that writes a 0.3mm line the Staedtler Fineliner 306 S contains dry safe ink, which is airplane safe.

Looking in my pen box for something to review, my mind drifted back to school days when a pencil case was always in my bag. Cases for pencils have been around for over 200 years, some elaborate designs were even made in silver & gold. I seem to recall a favourite of mine being made from a heavy tartan fabric that was splattered with felt pen ink, usually due to the lids being left off when packed away in a hurry as I rushed to reach the next lesson on time.

On a grey wet morning I was disappointed to see yet another report on the news that handwriting is on its way out in the U.S. I recall reading back in 2011 that some states had dropped the need for cursive writing in favour of the keyboard.
